Outreach

…..an inclusive community, sharing the love of God in Christ

Holy Family has a long tradition of helping the Coastside community around us.

For the last 15 years we've had a monthly food distribution of produce and dry goods on the 4th Saturday of every month at 10:30AM.

On any given month we typically serve between 35 and 40 families. If consider an average family size of at least 4 people, that means we are helping around 160 people each month!

If you would like to help with this important ministry, we can always use more volunteers, just send an email to outreach@holyfamilyhmb.org.  We Also can use donations of dry goods to supplement the fresh produce.  So when you are shopping pick up some extra pantry items such as:

  • Canned tuna
  • Canned chicken (Costco sells them in 6 packs)
  • Canned fruit, vegetables
  • Tomato Sauce
  • Rice (get big bags, we can break them down)
  • Dried pinto beans (get big bags we can break them down)
  • Boxed dinners like Mac and Cheese
  • Other shelf stable food items..
  • Large Ziploc bags (for breaking down large bags of beans,  rice or other dry goods)

Costco is a great place to get these items in bulk (25 or 50 pound bags of beans or rice,  multi-packs of canned tuna or chicken, etc.)

Look for sales at CVS, Safeway, etc.

If you don’t have time to shop you can can put a special donation in the offering plate on Sunday (be sure to mark the memo area of your check “produce”).  We’ll make a Costco run for you and your donation will be included in your giving statement.  You can also donate right now via paypal with this donate button:

We also organize a community backpack drive in August before the new school year in collaboration with many other Coastside groups to make sure that all the children in our community are ready for school and have what they need to learn. The most recent drive for the 2013-14 school year  Holy Family Episcopal Church, Community United Methodist Church, Coastside Jewish Community, Coastside Lutheran Church, , Coastside Hope, Abundant Grace Coastside Worker, CUSD Migrant Family Education Program and other community groups worked together to collect school supplies and fill backpacks for local children who cannot afford them.

We always need cash donations for this ministry.  These donations go toward purchasing the backpacks and other supplies.  For your convenience, we’re offering this Donate button, so that you can make a quick donation with either your credit card or you PayPal account (if you have one).

If sending a check is more convenient, please be sure to write “Backpacks” on the memo line, and send it to

We know that many of us are facing financial difficulties, but that makes the need even greater.  Even if you can only spare $5 or $10, please consider making a donation.  You’d be amazed at how quickly those donations add up!

Before Christmas we actively participate in Coastside Hope’s adopt a family program, typically adopting several families and seniors as a congregation.  Other members participate directly adopting a needy family on their own as part of their Christmas tradition.

Finally our largest outreach program is Holy Family Children’s Center
Holy Family Children’s Center is a mission of Holy Family Episcopal Church.  It is nonprofit preschool licensed by the state of California and accredited with the National Academy of Early Childhood Education.
